Marco Magrini nasce a Milano il 31 luglio 1945. Marco Magrini was born in Milan, Italy on 31st July 1945. After studying Classics, he studied Art History and Architecture at the State University of Milan, 1967. He works as a painter using acrylics, gouaches, pastels and inks on paper, and makes installations on the ground in coloured sand, and also as a sculptor, using a range of materials including bronze, steel, wood and glass. Since 1965 Marco Magrini's work has been exhibited widely in private galleries and museums, these exhibitions include over fifty one-man shows. He has exhibited in Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, France, Holland, Austria, Tunisia, Sweden, Egypt, Greece, Yugoslavia, Hong Kong, Iceland, U.S.A. and England. He has won two grants to develop his own work abroad, from the Egyptian Government for five months in 1988, and from the Greek Government for six months in 1990. A short statement about my work: The following is but a summary indication of the whole. As it is a particular characteristic of mine to move from one material to another, and consequently from one technique to another, one cannot speak of experimenting, but it is maybe worth noting the need I often feel to bring together, in one and the same work, techniques and languages which are apparently very different. However, my overriding concern is with the content of my work, that is with giving form to shadows, dreams, and projects, ancient weapons, mirrors and their reflections, ears, eyes, the features of people I care for, the tracks of animals in the snow, animals which have never existed before, the figure of the Pharoah, insects, jewellery and the television, the memory of objects made as a child, the changing spaces of architecture, baboons, the wish to be able to throw certain objects, the precariousness of equilibrium (I mean in physical terms), the pool of Narcissus, the sense of touch which we have lost: which all means the habit of seeing beyond the things themselves while being blind to their everyday banality. All this and much else besides. |
